EIGHT weekly 45-minute classes: FALL - WINTER - SPRING Williamsburg Fees: SIX weekly 45-minute classes: SUMMER ONLY $100 One Child _______________________________________________________________________ CLASSROOM GUIDELINES: - What you need to know for the first day of class :) ATTENDANCE: Please do your best to arrive at least five to ten minutes early to class; it will make your child’s adjustment easier, it can be very intimidating to walk into a class already in progress. Each class will start on time. Please notify me ahead of time if you will be absent from class, this will qualify as an “excused” absence and give me the opportunity to fill your spot. Extra adults are welcome at anytime, feel free to bring husbands, wives, grandparents etc… HANDWASHING: In the spirit of keeping us all healthy, we will continue our policy of hand washing for all prior to the start of class. If you do not arrive in time to get to the restroom, hand sanitizer will be provided at the front of the room for use before class or at any time. Let’s stay healthy! Restrooms are located to the left as you walk in. MAKE-UP CLASSES: Excused absences (see above, Attendance) can be made up at any other class time providing there is space. Two make-ups are allowed per session and can be scheduled by contacting me via phone or email. If you plan to miss a class later in the semester, you may make it up before hand to assure space is available. CLASS MATERIALS: Play your CD’s at home or in the car as frequently as possible, especially during the first weeks of class. Make it available to your child to listen to while she is playing or before nap or bedtime. Use the songbook to help you remember the songs or to play along with if you play an instrument. Do not let the musical notation scare you, you do not have to read music to use this book. At bedtime or naptime try using the songbook instead of a regular book. The more familiar your child becomes with the music, the more comfortable she will be in class. New parents will receive Music and Your Child: A Guide for Parents and Caregivers . (very much worth reading!) You will receive your materials on the 1 st day. LOCATION: CLASSROOM GUIDELINES:First and foremost, have fun and PARTICIPATE! Everyone feels shy including your child, set a good example by setting aside your discomfort and joining in our live music making. There is no wrong way to express yourself and you will not be graded. J This program is strongly based on parent/caregiver interaction with the child. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE NO TALKING! This is the hardest part of class. We try to make this 45 minutes of the week a TOTAL immersion in music. The more we communicate musically during this time, the more our children will learn the language of music! When getting out or putting away instruments your child will most likely follow my lead and should not need coaxing – be patient, instead of talking during this time, try watching and listening to your child. It is in this transition time that children tend to vocalize tidbits from the previous song. I will come around and make sure everyone has what they need, (or gotten rid of what they had). Silence between activities is desirable. Listen for it! Your child is free to move about the room and express herself in whatever way she chooses. As long as she is not hurting herself or another child or being excessively disruptive you do not need to intervene in her behavior. Feel free to step out of the room with your child if you feel it is necessary to discipline them or halt a certain behavior. The only time I do ask that you rein your child in is during lullaby. They can sit on your lap, lay on the floor OR if they cannot be still you can try standing and holding them while swaying. We try for a “no running” policy but if your toddler is a mover that’s okay, just keep a close eye on him. I really like to avoid the running “game”, especially with the older/larger/stronger children. SAFETY FIRST! (that’s my main concern) Please don’t bring any toys, blankets or other distractions into the classroom. Please mute cell phones. Personal items and can be left in the foyer/lobby as you walk in. Shoes are optional. NO FOOD OR DRINK IN THE CLASSROOM – Please plan to feed your child before or after class. If they must eat during class, please take them out of the room to do so. “Hunger” can be very contagious. Sippy cups with water can be used at your discretion but please don’t bring them to the circle. Feeding infants or nursing your child is always welcome at any time and wherever you are comfortable. I look forward to seeing you on the first day of class!! – Please feel free to contact me with any questions! ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY MORE THAN SEVEN (7) DAYS PRIOR TO THE START OF CLASS: SEVEN DAYS PRIOR TO THE START OF CLASS AFTER THE FIRST CLASS: THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS AFTER THE SECOND WEEK Special circumstances such as family emergencies or chronic illness will be considered on a case by case basis |
